This 6th most expensive neighborhood in the country is located east of Chestnut Hill, south of Aberdeen, west of Harvard Avenue, and north of Brookline Reservoir Park. Its strategic location made it easily accessible to run errands on foot, and there is always a cafe or restaurant nearby. This picturesque neighborhood coined its name after the merchant Francis Fisher who built his estate at the corner of Chestnut Hill Avenue and Boylston Street in 1852. Fisher Hill had a relatively small number of landowners in the 1880s until some banded together to get Frederick Law Olmsted and John Charles Olmsted and have it subdivided, built, developed, and landscaped. Soon, many fashionably designed houses were built and sold to wealthy individuals. In 1914, many property owners entered a restrictive covenant limiting their Fisher Hill properties to exclusively single-family residential uses.
