Homes for Sale in Nonantum, Newton, MA

One of the 13 villages in Newton is the tranquil neighborhood of Nonantum. This closely-knit Italian-American community in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, is strategically located north of Newtonville, west of West Newton, south of Bleachery, and east of Hunnewell Hill. It is conveniently located to local shops, restaurants, Charles River Greenway, entertainment and easily accessible to Mass Pike, Rt.16 & Rt.20. Nonantum means “blessing” or “prayer” in the Native American Algonquian language. It is also known as Tin Horn, after the large horn used to call workers to the mills, North Village, Silver Lake, and The Lake. Nonantum was famous because it is the home of Waban, one of the first Native Indians in Massachusetts who was converted to Christianity. In the 18th century, there was an influx of immigrants that moved to Nonantum to work in cotton, wool, and rope mills. These new residents were predominantly from Russia and Ireland, but there was also an influx of Italian immigrants from San Donato Val di Comino, Italy.

The charming Nonantum properties offer generously sized living space ranging between 1,658 square feet to 4,777 square feet. Most of them have beautiful hardwood floors, huge storage space, and an open floor plan. The kitchen has stainless appliances. The living room and dining room lead out to a private deck, and some properties have modest size backyard and patios.

Some of the properties are condominiums with a competitive price that ranges from $359,000 to $1,498,000. These residences boast comfortable 2 to 5 bedroom and 1 to 3 bathroom layouts. Condominium units feature a total livable space of modest 719 square feet to spacious 3,860 square feet. These charming and desirable units are built with plenty of natural light, oversized windows, and stunning architectural details. Most units have an open floor plan with a dining room, modern kitchen, spacious bedrooms, and huge walk-in closets. Parking can either be covered and uncovered.
