Homes for Sale in Ball Square, Somerville, MA
Ball Square is a mostly residential neighborhood in the western portion of Somerville, MA. The neighborhood sits directly to the southeast of Tufts University to the southwest of Boston Avenue. Like other communities in the city, Ball Square is an excellent bedroom community that provides lovely home options for families looking to live on Boston’s western outskirts. The neighborhood was named after John Nichols Ball, a local businessman, and respected politician. During its early years, the neighborhood was a well-known commercial district, with some of the businesses that started during its early years still open to this day. Famous establishments in the community include Lyndell’s Bakery, Ball Square Cafe, Kelly’s Diner, and so much more. Today, the neighborhood still retains its uniquely blue-collar feel and attracts both professionals working in nearby business centers and students attending the nearby university.
Real Estate in the Ball Square neighborhood is a collection of single-family and multi-family properties built in the early 1900s. These homes feature Colonial Revival architecture with steepled roofs, wood plank walls, bright colored paints, large framed windows, small porches at the front, and no attached garage. The larger residences in the area feature attached condo-style layouts with duplexes and triplexes being a common home style for most of them. Property prices in the region start around the $700,000 price point and go all the way up to $1.5 million. Home builds range between two to four-bedroom designs with one to three baths. The community’s condo-style houses are probably the most affordable providing a modest 1,000 sqft to 1,400 sqft living arrangement. Most of these properties were remodeled from their original single-family design to provide additional housing units for each property. You can also find many single-family homes that retain their original layout and some newer low-density apartment buildings in the community. These homes tend to offer between 2,000 sqft to 4,000 sqft in living space.
