Homes for Sale in East Somerville, MA

East Somerville is a semi triangle-shaped neighborhood in the easternmost portion of the city of Somerville, MA. The neighborhood borders include the Northern Expressway, Massachusetts Route 28, the McGrath Highway, and Washington Street. Like many other communities in the region, East Somerville was initially developed as a working-class community that provides affordable housing for families working in Boston. The area has mostly retained this characteristic, with many historic homes built in the 1880s to 1890s still standing to this day. Today, East Somerville is home to around 8,000 residents, with over 2,900 households spread between the many properties in the community. The suburb is one of the most densely populated in the region creating lots of good opportunities for investors looking at purchasing a rental home or families that want to live a short drive away from Downtown Boston.

East Somerville provides a comfortable and welcoming residential neighborhood that caters to working-class families looking for a home in the city. Residents enjoy convenient transportation options, including bus stops and major highways that connect the area to the rest of Boston. Schools and public parks are plentiful, and the Assembly Square district’s many shopping centers are located directly north of the suburb. Located right next to major intersections and the Northern Expressway, you can expect heavy traffic in the edges of the neighborhood, especially during peak business hours. There is no train line located within East Somerville, with the closest being Sullivan Square Station on the Orange Line located a bit to the east of the suburb.

Real Estate in East Somerville is comprised of the classic New England Cottage-style homes prevalent during the latter part of the 19th century. These home types are typically priced between $500,000 to $1 million and feature two to four-bedroom home builds with 1,100 sqft to 3,000 sqft of living space. There are larger multi-family residences that serve as low-rise apartment buildings also available in the community. If you’re in the market for something more affordable, you can opt for the newer condo developments in the area, which come in between $300,000 to $600,000. These units typically feature between studio to two-bedroom unit layouts with 500 to 1,200 sqft in living space.
