Homes for Sale in Magoun Square, Somerville, MA
Magoun Square, funnily enough, is a triangle-shaped neighborhood centered on Broadway and Medford Street’s intersection. Borders of the suburb include Broadway to the north, train tracks to the southwest, and Glenwood Road to the southeast. The suburb is home to around 3,700 residents and almost 1,500 households spread throughout its land area. As a crossroads community, there has been significant development in the region, with overpasses and safety traffic features added to the various roadways to prevent accidents in the area. Historically, the neighborhood was named after John Calvin Magoun, the assessor of the town of Somerville. The area used to be mostly farmland, with John owning a parcel of farmland between Broadway and Vernon Street aptly named the Adams-Magoun House.
Magoun Square is an excellent bedroom community a short drive away from Central Boston and the various business districts in the Greater Boston Metropolitan Area. There are a couple of lovely public parks in the neighborhood that are perfect for spending time outside with the kids. Shopping, dining, schools, and recreation, are all readily available to families living in the area.
The majority of homes in Magoun Square are comprised of the classic New England Cottage-style residences prominent throughout Somerville. These homes were built between the late 1800s to early 1900s and feature multi-floor layouts, which serve as excellent multi-family residences or expansive houses with lots of rooms perfect for large families. Houses under this category are typically priced between the high $600,000s to $1.2 million. Floor layouts start at a modest size of 1,000 sqft and go all the way up to 3,500 sqft for the larger home builds. Condominiums in the area provide additional options for buyers looking for a more affordable home option. Although limited in number, you can find studio-type to two-bedroom units in the area that are great for young professionals or property investors looking to leverage the city’s high demand for housing.

What's To Love
After many years of anticipation, Magoun Square will be home to an MBTA Green Line Extension (GLX) stop. You’ll love the cozy patio at Daddy Jones or the local taps & sports games at Magoun Saloon. Modelo’s Market is a Brazilian market gem. Their breakfast & warm customer service is a favorite! You will also love La Posada’s shrimp tacos! Trum field is a great spot to watch a game or get some sun while reading a book (speaking from experience)
What's Not To Love
Parking can definitely get tight when you are on the side streets. Broadway can be a little busier with the bus stops and noise.
