Prospect Hill is a mixed-use neighborhood that’s mostly residential located in the very heart of Somerville, MA. The neighborhood sits next to a couple of major roadways, including Highland Avenue to the north, McGrath Highway to the east, and Somerville Avenue to the south. The suburb is known for the iconic Prospect Hill Monument or Prospect Hill Tower, an old stone tower monument built on top of a site with significance in both the Revolutionary War and Civil War. The structure itself was built in 1904 and currently flies the Grand Union Flag, reportedly the flag that George Washington hoisted on the site. The community of Prospect Hill, as the name implies, is built on top of a hill. There are lots of spots throughout the neighborhood that offers scenic views of the surrounding city skyline. Prospect Hill is a well-developed neighborhood with all the conveniences a family would want. Schools are plentiful in the area, including Somerville High School, which sits directly north of the suburb. These houses feature steepled roofs, Hardiplank walls, Edwardian facades with three windows on each level, and brick foundations with a basement underneath.
