Union Square is a mixed-use neighborhood in the southeastern part of Somerville, MA. The neighborhood is centered around Union Square, an intersection of Washington Street, Webster Avenue, and Somerville Avenue. Union Square was derived from the Union Army’s mustering site during the American Civil War, with a plaque commemorating the site located on the southwestern corner of the square. Originally the area, same as other communities in Somerville, was mainly agricultural. However, as more and more development came into Boston, the suburb, like many others, was developed for residential and commercial use for working-class families living in the city. Today, the neighborhood features a combination of well-developed residential areas and a major commercial center with lots of stores, bars, restaurants, and other establishments. There has been significant gentrification throughout Union Square as wealthy families opted to move into the comfortable suburban homes on the outskirts of Boston.

Prices of properties in the neighborhood start at $600,000 for the smaller residences and up to $2 million-plus for the larger multi-floor homes. Floor spaces for these homes range between 600 sqft to 3,500 sqft, with home models coming in one to five-bedroom layouts.
