Homes for Sale in Union Square, Somerville, MA
Union Square is a mixed-use neighborhood in the southeastern part of Somerville, MA. The neighborhood is centered around Union Square, an intersection of Washington Street, Webster Avenue, and Somerville Avenue. Union Square was derived from the Union Army’s mustering site during the American Civil War, with a plaque commemorating the site located on the southwestern corner of the square. Originally the area, same as other communities in Somerville, was mainly agricultural. However, as more and more development came into Boston, the suburb, like many others, was developed for residential and commercial use for working-class families living in the city. Today, the neighborhood features a combination of well-developed residential areas and a major commercial center with lots of stores, bars, restaurants, and other establishments. There has been significant gentrification throughout Union Square as wealthy families opted to move into the comfortable suburban homes on the outskirts of Boston.
Union Square is a well-developed neighborhood known for its many stores, cafes, and restaurants. The neighborhood also features a well-established business center with multiple office buildings and commercial establishments. Public parks and schools are plentiful in the area providing all of the conveniences a family would need. Real Estate prices in the suburb are quite diverse, with a mix of single-family homes, townhouses, condos, and more.
Homes in Union Square is a mix of different home builds and styles developed between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Houses built during these decades feature charming Colonial and New England architectural styles. Exteriors include iconic wood panel walls, large framed windows, small patios, steepled roofs, and bright paint colors. Many of the structures have been rebuilt and remodeled, with a good number of them being converted into multi-family residences, townhouses, and duplexes. Prices of properties in the neighborhood start at $600,000 for the smaller residences and up to $2 million-plus for the larger multi-floor homes. Floor spaces for these homes range between 600 sqft to 3,500 sqft, with home models coming in one to five-bedroom layouts.
